RouterOS is not hard. Learning it from random tutorials is.
Most people meet MikroTik the same way: a router arrives, a forum post gets pasted into the terminal, and it works — until it doesn’t. Then the questions start piling up, and none of the tutorials answer them.
- You run firewall rules you can’t explain, so you never know which one is protecting you and which one is breaking the network.
- Port forwarding works on one router and silently fails on the next, and you have no method to find out why.
- You reach for masquerade every time, because nobody ever explained when src-nat is the right answer.
- A client calls saying the internet is slow, and your only diagnosis is rebooting the router.
- You want the MTCNA, but you don’t know what is on the exam or how the official class actually works.
None of that is a talent problem. It is the difference between collecting commands and understanding the box — and that difference is exactly what this course was built to close.
What you’ll be able to do when you finish
Not “know about”. Do — on a real router, with your own hands.
Bring a new router up safely
Default configuration and the password sticker, WinBox, MAC-WinBox, WebFig and the mobile app, then identity, password and a clean RouterOS upgrade.
Write firewall rules you can explain
Chains, actions and connection states — protecting the router with input and the LAN with forward, rule by rule, knowing what each one does and why it is there.
Get port forwarding right the first time
Destination NAT step by step, plus the masquerade vs src-nat decision that determines whether your rule survives the next IP change.
Diagnose instead of rebooting
ping, traceroute and torch, interface traffic and graphs, logs and supout.rif — the sequence to run before touching a single line of config.
Recover a router you broke
Backup vs export (.rsc) and when each one saves you, resetting, and a full reinstall with Netinstall.
Cover the MTCNA foundations
DHCP client and server, ARP and DNS, bridging, static routing, wireless basics, Simple Queue and a PPPoE client connecting to an ISP.
Walk into the official class ready
How MikroTik’s certification program works, what your official class covers, and how to prepare for the MTCNA exam.
Every lesson, in order
Six modules, 31 lessons, in the order a router actually gets configured: access first, then protection, then diagnosis, then the MTCNA foundations.
6 modules · 31 lessons

6. Next steps: official class and certification3 lessons
- The MikroTik certification program
- Your official class and your RouterOS license
- Preparing for the MTCNA exam
The lessons are written, step-by-step material with labs — including a working port forward built from scratch. You can follow them with a router on the bench and keep them as a reference afterwards, instead of scrubbing a video to find one command.

Is this course for you?
Yes, if
- You work with networks — field tech, support, NOC, ISP — and MikroTik keeps showing up in your day.
- You already configure by copying tutorials, and you want to understand what you are typing.
- You are going for the MTCNA and want the foundations plus the official class sorted out.
- You would rather have written, searchable steps to follow with a router in front of you.
Not yet, if
- You have never worked with IP addressing — start with networking fundamentals; this course assumes you know what a subnet is.
- You are looking for BGP, MPLS or advanced queues — those live in the advanced MikroTik track, not here.
- You want to watch videos passively, without ever opening WinBox.
Who teaches it
Thales Moisés
Network engineer and instructor
In the field with networks since 2006, and training ISP teams since 2014.
The person who wrote these lessons is the same one closing tickets, configuring POPs and bringing networks back up. So the examples here are the ones that show up on a Friday night in production — not the ones that look good on a slide.

- Training ISP teams since 2014

Questions before you enrol
Is this the official MikroTik training?
The course is our own material, written to take you from first access to the MTCNA foundations. On top of it, your enrolment includes a seat in an official MikroTik class and a RouterOS license released in your MikroTik account — both registered for you by the instructor after you enrol. Module 6 explains exactly how MikroTik’s certification program fits together.
Do I need a MikroTik router to follow along?
It helps a lot, and any RouterBOARD works. If you don’t have one yet, module 1 covers the hardware categories and product ranges so you know what to buy before you spend anything.
Are the lessons video or written?
Written, step-by-step lessons with labs. That is deliberate: when you are in front of a router you want to scan a page and copy a command, not scrub a video timeline looking for it. And you keep the material as a reference after you finish.
Does it cover RouterOS v6 or v7?
Both. Module 1 has a dedicated lesson on what changed from v6 to v7, so you can work on the mixed reality every network actually has instead of only the newest version.
Will this prepare me for the MTCNA exam?
Module 5 covers the MTCNA foundations — DHCP, ARP and DNS, bridging, static routing, wireless basics, Simple Queue and PPPoE — and module 6 walks through the certification program and how to prepare. The exam itself is taken with MikroTik, through your official class.
When do I get access?
The course unlocks in your student area as soon as your payment is confirmed. The official class registration and the RouterOS license are done by hand on MikroTik’s site right after that, so those come by e-mail rather than instantly.
I already know the basics. Is this too simple for me?
If you write your own filter rules, can explain when src-nat beats masquerade, and read a torch output without help, you are past this course — look at the advanced MikroTik track instead. This one is for the step before that.
Your next router deserves better than a pasted config
One payment gets you the 31 lessons, the official MikroTik class and the RouterOS license. Start today, on the router you already have.

P.S. If the MTCNA is on your list this year, the official class and the license are already part of this enrolment — you don’t need to buy them separately.
